1. Quote - Listen to the quote and guess what the slang means.

“It’s kind of a nasty song; it’s taking a nasty look at a guy taking a girl for granted and getting what he deserves in the end, which is dumped.”
- Adam Duritz, talking about one of the songs he wrote.

Definition

1. Definition - Study the definition.

dump (v.) break up with; end a relationship; stop seeing; stop being romantic with; stop being a couple

2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

You can use dump to describe any situation in which one person is ending a relationship with another person. The most common use is in romantic relationships – when a girlfriend dumps her boyfriend, or vice versa. For example, if your boy/girlfriend tells you s/he doesn’t want to see you anymore, s/he is dumping you.
Dump can also be used in other situations. At work, a boss can dump an employee if that employee is doing a bad job. Or, in sports, a coach can dump a player if that player is playing poorly.

Examples

1. Examples - Hear some example sentences.

””Jeff dumped me last night. I can’t believe it. I am so sad. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I was so in love with him.”“

””When are you going to dump that loser you’re dating? He is not a cool guy. You need to get rid of him as soon as possible.”“

””Mike used to be the best player on our team, but he’s getting old. I think the coach is going to dump him so some younger players can play.”“

””I know Carol isn’t doing a good job, but I don’t think she should be dumped. She’s a good person. I think she’s just going through a bad time right now.”“

Winners

1. Winners - See who guessed the slang definition correctly.

I think it means ’ to end a relationship with someone’ or ‘to ditch someone’ or ‘to walk out on someone’. e.g. ‘she was dumped by her long-term lover after five years.’

I am pretty sure “dumped” means that one partner ends the relationship and the other feels bad about it.
by Alexia (Bonn, Germany)
I think being dumped means to break up (in the case of a couple)... when you say you’re dumping someone means you’re breaking up with that person… you’ll stop seeing …
by Ana (México)
Dumped means throw away, stupid
by Minnie
My guess: dumped means being discarded or rejected .
by Joe (Shanghai, China)

by Ghazal (Karachi, Pakistan)
We can use “dumped” when you refer to something you don’t want anymore and you just get rid of it.
