Backstabber

Lesson

My wife, Sayaka (who is Japanese) said she learned the phrase "stabbed in the bacK" yesterday.  Can you guess what it means?

stab (someone) in the back
(v.) to betray someone.

Background: stab means to stick someone with a knife so stab in the back is like you are sneaking up behind someone and hurting them. It's NOT a good thing to back stab someone.

Example sentence: "I told Dave not to tell anyone else my secret, but he totally stabbed me in the back and told everyone in school."

Other variations on the word:

backstabber
(n.) Someone who betrays other people.

One way or the other humans stab one another in the back for one reason or the other. Don't be a backstabber. It isn't a good adjective.
