Hey friends!
In this lesson you can listen to John go to the gas station for fuel. John lives in Oregon, where it is actually illegal to pump your own gas! (Isn’t that silly!) In most states you have to put gas in the car yourself.
However, most gas stations have an attendant who will help you check your oil, or with any other problems that come up.

John

Attendant:  What can I do for you today?

John:  Uh, can I get five bucks?

Attendant:  Cash?

John:  Uh, let me see…

Attendant:  Unfortunately the tank’s on the other side.

John:  Oh it is?

Attendant:  Yeah, just flip around over there maybe?

John:  I’ll turn around.

Attendant:  So, that was five Regular? Cash?

John:  Yeah, can we actually do credit card?

Attendant:  Sure.

John:  Actually debit?

Attendant:  Sure.

John:  OK.

Attendant:  That’ll work.

John:  Thanks.

Attendant:  Here’s your card.

John:  Thanks.

Attendant:  Here’s your receipt.

John:  Hey, could you do me a big favor and see… check the oil level?

Attendant:  Sure pop the hood.

John:  I think it’s going to be a little bit low.

Attendant:  Actually it doesn’t look that bad.

John:  It’s not bad?

Attendant:  The level looks okay, it looks a little dirty.

Discussion

This conversation is difficult to follow because John and the attendant speak quickly to each other. Take your time listening to their exchange because this is how quickly people usually speak to each other!
There are many excellent vocabulary words about cars in this lesson. Even though there is a lot to remember, try to give these words some extra time. They will come in handy in the future!
At the gas station you should be able to fill up your tank, check your oil, wash off your windshield and even put air in your tires. If you need help with any of these things, just ask!
