Matt, the Music Shop Guy

Matt, the Music Shop Guy

During the day, musicians who don’t work at music stores shop at music stores. There are lots of toys to play with and you can pick up a few tips from the people who work at the store since they are, of course, musicians and most likely cooler than you because they work at a music store, which of all the day jobs musicians have, is one of the most coveted.

When Matt isn’t performing with his band, he helps people figure out what guitars and accessories they need. So last time Jason went to his favorite local music store, he brought along a camera to ask the man behind the counter a few questions.

If you can read the line above, you are 1337. “1337” is pronounced “leet” and it refers to the word “elite.” The unusual spelling comes from the fact that the digits in the number “1337” resemble the letters that spell “leet,” and those who can understand this sort of writing (which is common on the Internet) are supposedly “elite” computer users.

Or complete nerds.

No Country for Old Men

No Country for Old Men

“Call it,” says the strange man in dark clothes. He’s flipped a coin and covered it with his fingers. No matter how many times you ask, he won’t tell you what’s at stake. But if you guess wrong, he’ll kill you.

Sound scary? It’s supposed to be. The killer in the movie No Country for Old Men is scary even to the cowboys he fights. And cowboys are supposed to be tough.

You can imagine how freaked out Devan gets if anyone flips a coin around her. Or you can watch this video.

Product Placement

Product Placement

These days marketing is all about being subtle. Look closely and you’ll notice fast-food restaurants in the background of a movie or that your favorite pop star always drinks the same soft drink on stage. Those things are no accident. Companies pay top dollar to have their products put in places where people will see them.

Ebaby! doesn’t yet sell ad space in our lessons, but here’s a dramatization of what it might look like if we did. Don’t worry, the soap opera will be back to its regularly scheduled programming next week.
