Looking at art is a fun thing to do, but it’s also an important part of understanding the world we live in. Artists are innovators and they express new views and opinions about human existence. Seeing art is a good way to learn more about ourselves.
Sculpture is an exciting type of art, because unlike painting and photography, experiencing sculpture isn’t a static experience. You can move around a sculpture, and it will look different depending on how you look at it. Also, sculptures often look completely different depending on the light that’s falling on them.
Read on to learn about some of the most interesting sculptors and sculptures in the world.

The most well-known ancient sculptures in the world are usually representative of the human form. For thousands of years, artists have been making sculptures that mimic the human body – sometimes in a realistic way and other times in an interpretive or idealistic one.
Renaissance sculpture. It depicts the biblical David just before he is to fight Goliath.
Another famous sculptor is the Romanian Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957). He was one of the first artists in the world to experiment with abstract art. Over his lifetime, his sculptures became progressively smoother and less figurative, until only the slightest outline of the original subject was left.
After the invention of abstract art, many artists pushed even further into abstraction and created minimalism – a style in which art is stripped down to only its most fundamental parts. One of the best known minimalist artists is American _Donald Judd (1928-1994). Judd created many amazing sculptures using metal and concrete at his studio in Marfa, Texas.

Discussion

Sculpture is definitely my favorite art. While I love painting, sculpture is more interesting to me, because I can interact with it. I especially like very large sculptures. It’s a great feeling to be overwhelmed by the size and power of a huge sculpture.
Take it easy,
Miguel
