Hey, everyone!

Are you a parent? Have you ever had to deal with a school crush your little ones had?

It turned out to be quite a challenge in my case. My 12-year-old got his heart broken twice this year, both times with dramatic consequences, like refusing to go to school or making statements like: "Girls are so stupid!"

So I was browsing the net looking for parenting tips on how to help a child deal with school crushes, when I came across this interview with 9-year-old Alec Greven, who wrote a book called "How To Talk To Girls".

Of course, this is a children's book targeting boys and girls his age. But when you give it a deeper thought, there are a couple of things we all need to be reminded once in a while. Like, "Life is hard, move on!" That is, you fail in something, just admit that life is hard, get over it and go on with your life.

Everything started with this school assignment he had in which he had to observe the world around him. So he decided to watch the way boys and girls interact during recess. Eventually, he wrote this book based on his findings.

He has also appeared in The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Today Show, and Inside Edition.

Video Quiz and Script

Leave your comments:

  • Do you remember some of your own elementary or middle school crushes?
  • Did you find anything in the interview that applies to grown up relationships? Or, do you think school crushes have nothing to do with grown-up crushes?

That would be interesting to know.

Its not a big deal. Considering that phase of life,It might be hard both genders to avoid infactuation between themselves. Eventually they will get over with it and might possible they could be great friends too. :) well that’s my opinion.

What migth appear to be a little thing for us adults concerning kids’ world, it is a actually a serious thing in their eyes.

we all passed through this childhood stage and we should not understimate its psychological effects.

Wow! Alec is pretty advanced for a nine-year-old boy. Or is it how kids are in America today? I wish I knew all this stuff when I was that age. As for me, it's never too late to learn (and I'm being serious, promise!)

it's in some men's blood to treat women like dirt :-P nothing personal but don't generalize; it goes way beyond gender

I had a crush on my third-grade teacher. To me, she was the sweetest woman on earth, after my mom, of course. That crush only lasted a year. Crushes are like that, temporary

I think boys and girls should be taught to wait for the right time when to fall in love. I mean, to have control over their emotions and to decide for whom they think is the right person.

cool. he's young but he knows already. in fact, there's no difference in the way women behave; women are women, no matter the age, it's in some women's blood to treat men like dirt

some them want to use you and some of them want to get used by you. Most of people are freaks. There is no recipe.
