When you graduate from high school, your whole life is in front of you. You are finally an adult, about to embark on your own independent journey. You have so many choices. What will you do first?

Some young folks go straight to college. Maybe they know exactly what they want to do with their lives. Maybe they just want to get away from home. Or maybe they go because their parents expect it.

Others end up traveling for a while, or getting a job instead of continuing their education. Maybe they are expected to help their families, or can’t afford college tuition. Or maybe they just aren’t sure what they want to do next.

Listen to Kevin and Logan weigh the pros and cons of college right after high school.

Kevin:  How do feel about going directly into college or university right after high school?

Logan:  Well, I’m OK with it if the person has set out what their… exactly what their degree’s gonna be.

Kevin:  Yeah. I mean, I think it… I agree with you. It depends, you know, if someone has… I don’t think it has to be, like, “I’m sure I want to be an engineer, you know, an electrical engineer.” But you know, an idea, you know, a few options. But just to go in totally blind, I mean, I think… I mean, I knew a lot… I mean, I went in straight out of high school and I met a lot of people who had no direction and, and just weren’t ready for it. And I think a couple years later would have been much more beneficial for them.

Logan:  Sometimes they almost just like the concept of being in college and away from home.

Kevin:  But then they don’t understand how much, you know, work it is.

Logan:  Right. And you know, taking a year or two off after, maybe when you’re 20 or 19 even… I think that’s a great idea, you know, to really see what’s out there working-wise without the degree and then to actually…and then to see… you know, be out in the real world and then have the motivation to go back to school and say, “This is what I What I want to do.”

Kevin:  Yeah.
