Beyonce’s got a new album. It’s titled B’Day, and will be released the week of September 5th. Her 25th birthday is September 4th.

Beyonce is planning a tour to follow the release of the album. But this tour will be a little different. First, she’s going to have a live band backing her up. Even more exciting than that: the band is going to be all women.

In a recent interview, Beyonce said, “I’m all about female empowerment.” Emily and Amanda talk about Beyonce’s girl power.

Emily:  I heard something about Beyonce. She held some competition, um, she was basically looking for an all female backup band.

Amanda:  OK.

Emily:  So, um, you know, she’s really… she’s always been… I always feel like she’s been such a good role model um, for… towards female empowerment, and, uh, I just thought that was really interesting.

Amanda:  I agree. So I bet that was probably a crazy audition.

Emily:  Yeah.

Amanda:  I mean, what an opportunity. If you can sing and if you can back up Beyonce…

Emily:  Yeah. And if…

Amanda:  ...Probably one of the most well known females…

Emily:  Seems to always be really successful, I mean, she won a Grammy, didn’t she?

Amanda:  She did.

Emily:  Yeah, so, um, I think, uh, uh, yeah…

Amanda:  So who helped her judge?

Emily:  I think her, her father did.

Amanda:  That’s pretty cool. So she has her mom as her manager and her stylist and then she has her dad actually pick the cream of the crop of who’s going to be her back-up, so she’s got her whole family involved.

Emily:  Exactly, so I’m really looking forward to her upcoming album.

Amanda:  I am too.

Discussion

Emily and Amanda are anxious to hear Beyonce’s new album. Maybe they’ll go to the next Beyonce show.

Emily thinks it’s interesting that Beyonce is assembling an all-girl band.

Amanda thinks it’s cool that Beyonce’s got her parents involved with her career.

What do think of Beyonce’s decision to have an all-female band? Do you think she’s a good role model for women?
