Friends,

in islam woman has to cover her face & her whole body in order to keep away from males other than their husbands & relative… so naturally they don't have right to talk with any of other man… but here on this site there are so many mouslim women… how they are authorised to express their views before males of other religions… I couldn't understand..kindly help me…

You are cruel Dev…let them to speak…but it is very terrible becouse I am not sure that they always say what is on their heart, really. To have a brain and soul and it is forbiden to use it…very sad. And on the other hand…do men really like that…woman who don't have thoughts and feelings…just pretty face to be a trophy…is it the right thing?

Every misogynistic view Islam espouses was derived from Christianity- they even got the idea of the veils from Early Christians (who probably got them from Paul's nuttery, but I can't say for sure).

How unoriginal, eh?

I would ask the same of Christian women, though- if they actually followed their religion, they'd be refraining from speaking to anybody on matters of religion or politics, and deferring to their husbands or fathers (if unmarried).

Everything is changing,no rules can rule people forever except the rules like:people must eat to be live.In the old time, people must live under the regulations and commandment of Bible,Koran,or Confucianism books, but now people only need to follow the laws.

Fundamentalist Islamic teaching says that if a woman shows her face or body shape, she will encourage men who see her to have impure thoughts and commit sinful actions. I guess Muslim men are not able to control their feelings and actions as well as men from other cultures.

I think that Muslim women have been given the chance of great power thanks to the Internet. They can sit at home and type away in privacy. It's not that they are "authorised" to express their opinions – it's just that it's really difficult to stop them.

I think shadoww makes a good point. In Islam in particular, a man simply does not want a woman who has her own ideas – "Do the housework and make babies! That's your role in life, woman!" Of course, this is one reason that Western countries have developed much faster than Islamic ones. Our economies rely on men and women making contributions. If you deny half your working age population the opportunity to fully develop, then your economy will inevitably be slower at developing. Oil-rich Muslim countries can get around this (for now) by hiring people from abroad. The problem with that is the non-Islamic influence it brings.

Christianity (for all its faults) has at least partly developed as civilisation has progressed. Islam is on its way backwards – or at least standing still.

Blake, I've read several of your posts on here and you seem to really have an ax to grind with religion.  I respect your views as an atheist/agnostic (I used to be one myself) just as I respect the views of those who follow different religions.  Did you have a bad experience with religion at some point in my life?  The reason I ask is because most atheist/agnostics I know simply don't believe in God (or are unsure of their belief in God) but don't really have anything against religion.

About the Apostle Paul's statements about women in the church in 1 Corinthians 14 was made in the context of the culture and what the church in Corinth was like.  The worship services in Corinth were known to be somewhat chaotic and disorderly and the women in that church were interrupting the services by asking questions (we must keep in mind that women were uneducated then).  So that's why Paul said what he said about that women shouldn't speak at the church.  There are two schools of thought…some people believe that Paul was speaking universally to all women everywhere when he said that so women should still not speak in the church.  Others believe that what he said applied specifically to the situation in Corinth or in situations where women were not educated thereby being more inclined to ask questions that their husbands could easily answer to them later (and in doing so making the worship service more orderly).  But that has changed in parts of the world so many feel that Paul was only speaking that to the context of the situation and that it does not apply everywhere.

But nowhere in the New Testament does it say that women cannot express their viewpoints.  The only "grey area" is in the church where you have the two trains of thought that I mentioned above.  In fact, if you read stories about women in the early church, like Priscilla for example, you will see in Acts 18 that she helped instruct Apollos.  And if you read the Gospels, look how Jesus treated women.  It was with kindness and love just like he treated men and not at all inferior.

Devin, I cannot speak for the Muslim girls on the board.  The internet is a lot different than real life because you're not interacting directly with a person (especially on a message board like this where you're just contributing to a discussion).  I personally enjoy reading their thoughts and opinions :).

Dear Catsarepretty,

Nobody expresses what he feels… everyone has been just taught to keep the feelings inside.. that's why our world is so terrible.. when our personlity is divided how can we share… I also like the participation of islamic girls too …I don't have objection… I just wanted to point out religiusness of religions.. how it abstains..
